The iPhone SE series is a line of smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the budget phone in Apple’s iPhone lineup and targets customers looking for a smaller, less expensive device.
The last iPhone SE was launched in 2022. After that, the next iPhone is scheduled for 2024. However, according to a post shared by @Tech_Reve, he mentioned that the next iPhone SE will be launched in 2025 instead of 2024. In his post, he said,
“The iPhone SE4, which was under consideration for a 2024 release with BOE’s 6.1-inch panel, faced a significant hurdle as Apple demanded a very low price of $38 for the display. Seizing this opportunity, Tianma and Visionox have started moving to secure the order, and it appears that the product release timing may be postponed to 2025.“
So, it is pretty much clear that the iPhone SE (2025) will have a 6.1-inch display. But it is a matter to see what kinds of display Apple uses for only a $38 budget for an iPhone.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to come with some significant changes and upgrades. There have been some rumors that indicate that the iPhone SE 4 will have some massive hardware upgrades. These include:
- Action Button: According to the leaker, “Unknownz21“, the next iPhone SE will have a dedicated Action Button like the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The action button can be customized as per the interest of the user. It is also rumored that it will enable a gesture-based navigation system that may replace the Home Button.
- Face ID: Face ID is a very popular and core feature for its convenient use and functionality. Till now no iPhone SE released with Face ID recognition. But the leaker, Unknownz21 confirmed that the iPhone SE 4 will reportedly have Face ID instead of Touch ID. It will add features like Animoji, Memoji, and so on.
- OLED Display: For the first time in the history of the iPhone, the iPhone SE 4 will feature an OLED panel. The SE series was lagging behind in its display technology only because of the LCD display. But if Apple releases the iPhone SE 4 with an OLED panel then it will be a massive upgrade over the previous models. Because OLED display consumes less power than regular LCD display and also adds features like True Tone and Dark Mode. Till now only the non-SE series like the iPhone 14, and 15 series use OLED displays.
- USB-C Port: Due to the laws of the EU, all of the upcoming iPhones including the SE series will have USB-C ports instead of lightning ports.
- Custom 5G Modem: According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will start to use its custom 5G modem in 2025 and the iPhone SE 4 will be one of the first phones to use this modem. Currently, Apple uses Qualcomm’s modem and it will be replaced by the custom 5G modem. It is expected that it will offer better compatibility with different 5G networks all over the world.
These rumors indicate that the next iPhone SE 4 will be a good upgrade over any iPhone SE. But it is to see how Apple keeps the pricing of the phone.
In terms of pricing, last year’s iPhone SE cost $429 for the base 64 GB storage. Based on expert’s speculation, it is expected that the next iPhone SE price will start from around $450 for the base model. Though it is not confirmed, if the pricing starts at more than $500 then it will be difficult for Apple to compete.
